I started dancing at Mainstage as an early teenager, taking small weekly classes with a couple of other boys. At the time, I was really into musical theater, and dance classes seemed like the perfect supplement. Months turned into a year, a year into two years… and before long, dance became my favorite extracurricular. With Eddy’s guidance and training, my exposure to ballet, strength conditioning, hip-hop, and jazz enlightened me to a world of expression, athleticism, and artistry that I had no idea existed. Out of this rigorous study, my passion for the art form grew exponentially. The multifaceted elements of Eddy’s patient, personalized, and collaborative teaching– paired with his mentorship skills and enthusiasm for learning– created a welcome learning environment to work hard and find community. I carried his lessons with me when I pursued an undergraduate degree in dance at the Boston Conservatory, and I still carry them with me now, as I work with professional companies and theaters like Mark Morris Dance Group, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Hedwig Dances. I can say with absolute confidence that, without Eddy, I would not be a professional dancer today– nor would I be the same student, leader, artist, partner, or man.
